Cooking tips for cutting back calories!

  • Instead of using mayo, substitute low-fat cottage cheese or plain non-fat yogurt to make tuna salad.

  • Reaching for the BBQ or honey mustard sauce? Instead try experimenting with the spices in your cupboard! My favorites are Italian seasonings and ground pepper. In addition, adding a small pinch of salt to anything that you cook brings out flavors. Canned and packaged goods usually have a lot of sodium and do not need extra salt. Too much sodium in your diet can be detrimental to your health.

  • Replace half the butter in cake, muffin and brownie recipes with an equal amount of applesauce or mashed bananas. You'll save about 100 calories for every tablespoon you swap.
  • Making meatballs? Mix half the amount of ground beef the recipe calls for with half as much cooked brown rice.

India

Hey Krish,
Daydreaming about visiting India with you and thinking about what it would be like for you to return to your roots!

I just posted a vegetable curry recipe in the "recipes" page that looks very tasty. Thought this might be a good start for you since you come from the land of curry. You may need to buy a few ingredients, but I thought they'd be useful ones to have in your cupboard. Enjoy my friend and let me know how it goes!

Love,

Rach
